Mary Bellamy is a composer based in Sheffield in the UK, and is currently senior lecturer and head of undergraduate composition at the University of Huddersfield. In her piece, “Rift”, there are many musical and physical gestures that occur between the musicians, so it was incredibly important that we kept this in mind during the storyboarding, filming, and editing stages. During the edit, it was a lot of fun trying to visually tease out all the gestural dovetailing between musicians, esp during the more dynamic moments as each instrument interjected with their sonic rifts.
